Welcome to the heart of Sweden - where nature and culture meet

From the magic of midsummer and authentic culinary delights to the ultimate Scandinavian winter getaway – Dalarna has something to offer all year round. Here, culture and nature come together in perfect harmony, and the local traditions are just as vibrant as the breathtaking landscapes. Did you know that Dalarna is the favorite destination among Swedes? Now it’s time to share this gem with the rest of the world.

Direct routes to adventure
Fly directly to the Dalarna mountains via the brand new, state-of-the-art Scandinavian Mountains Airport. You can travel directly from Stockholm, Copenhagen, Groningen, Aarhus, Aalborg, Amsterdam, and London – fast and convenient access to your winter adventure. Learn more at scandinavianmountains.se/en

A few minutes from the airport you will find the popular alpine skiing resort of Sälen. Snow-covered landscapes or sunny summers provide everything from cozy evenings in front of an open fire after a day’s skiing to a stunning sunset at the end of a long summer evening. In this family-friendly area you will find plenty of activities and hotels to choose from. Check out Sweden's best ski hotel, Hotel Bügelhof, relax at cozy Olarsgården Hotel or enjoy après ski at nearby Stöten Mountain lodge. Your fine dining experience awaits at Frö restaurant where food and drinks reflect the taste of what is growing in the area.

Winter in Dalarna is long and magical – it’s not too late to experience the Scandinavian winter. Combine a sauna with an ice bath, glide through the snow on a dogsled, immerse yourself in a Sami experience, try ice fishing, snowshoe hike, and so much more. It’s exotic, invigorating, and an adventure you’ll never forget. You can still enjoy the Scandinavian winter all the way until April. Experience the authentic Scandinavian winter at Idre Fjäll, where snow-covered landscapes, thrilling outdoor activities, and true winter magic await. Learn more at visitdalarna.se/en/winter

Midsummer in Dalarna - as magical as it is unique. There is nothing more magical than midsummer in Dalarna. This ancient Swedish tradition celebrates the arrival of summer at the end of June. The landscapes are lush and green, flowers are in full bloom, and the Scandinavian nights are long and bright. Tall maypoles are adorned with leaves and flowers before being raised to mark the start of the celebrations. The festivities are framed by folk musicians in traditional costumes, red cottages, wooden fences, pickled herring, and strawberries – everything that creates an authentic midsummer in Dalarna.

The hotel Green Hotel in Tällberg is one of our amazing hotels that embraces local traditions. The hotel hosts its very own midsummer celebration and offers special packages for the occasion. And of course, no midsummer buffet is complete without crispbread from Skedvi Bröd, a local favorite that perfectly complements the traditional flavors of the holiday feast. The Carl Larsson Home - a true source of inspiration One of the world’s most beloved and renowned artist homes, the Carl Larsson Home, is located in the heart of Dalarna. This is where the artist couple Carl and Karin Larsson lived and worked around the turn of the 20th century, and today, the house is a museum. Their groundbreaking interior design style has inspired generations, and it’s perhaps no surprise that IKEA’s design team makes annual visits here to gather ideas and inspiration.
